Just as the name suggests, there is no storage device required. Instead of having a large water tank to store the heated water, the water will be heated the moment the hot water tap is opened. The cold water that runs through the pipe passes a gas burner or if it is an electric unit an electric element that heats the water. The benefit is that you will not have to wait for the geyser to fill up and water heated before the next person can take a hot shower or bath. This is especially beneficial for resorts where many persons in one chalet or camp may need to bath.
How many litres of water can be heated?
The normal rate of heating is about 6 to 20 litres per minute depending on the size of the unit. The tankless water heater can thus heat enough water to ensure a steady flow of hot water for the kitchen, a bath tub or even the shower.
Gas or electric?
The benefit of the gas water heater is that it offers a higher flow per minute than the electric tankless water heater.
What size to install?
A smaller unit may not be able to provide a constant flow of hot water for large households or when the demand is high.
